Dairy Code of Conduct Overview

The Dairy Industry Code of Conduct (the Code) aims to increase the clarity and transparency of trading arrangements between dairy farmers and those buying their milk – DFMC (as the first purchaser)

Far North Queensland

Statement of Circumstances

DFMC will enter into this agreement if the farmer is a member of the co-operative (or agrees to become a member immediately after entering into this agreement) and:

  • the farm is within the regions defined by the following:
  • a 50km radius of the BDD Malanda Factory located at 18 James Street Malanda.
  • the farmer wishes to supply DFMC on an exclusive basis;
  • the farmer can supply DFMC with an annual volume greater than 240,000 litres;
  • the farmer can supply milk of a high quality (TPC <20,000 cfu/mL and SCC <300,000 cells/ml);
  • Bega is obligated to acquire the milk the subject of this agreement from DFMC pursuant to the Milk Supply Agreement between DFMC and Bega; and
  • the farmer has demonstrated compliance with DFMCs Milk Policy (if the farmer has supplied DFMC before) or is able to demonstrate that the farmer can comply with DFMC’s Milk Policy and this agreement;

provided that DFMC has a demand for milk at the time a farmer offers to enter into this agreement with DFMC, with priority being given to farmers who are existing DFMC members.

South East Queensland

Statement of Circumstances

Information

Milk Volume Required

15ML in total for Southeast Queensland

Statement of Circumstances:

DFMC will enter into this agreement if the farmer is a member of the co-operative (or agrees to become a member immediately after entering into this agreement) and for the:

Dairy farms located in South East Queensland within:

  • a 5km distance either side of the Mary River between the Dickabram Bridge on Miva Road and the Kilcoy Lane bridge (south of Conondale);
  • A 5km distance either side of Gap Road and Cedar Pocket Road;
  • a 5km distance either side of Tin Can Bay Road between Gympie town centre to the intersection with Radtke Road (on the edge of Toolara State Forest);
  • a 15km distance either side of the Bruce Highway (M1) travelling between Caboolture and Eumundi;
  • a 10km distance either side of the Brisbane Valley Highway (A17) travelling between Fernvale and Biarra;

Scenic Rim and Lockyer Valley

  • a 10 km distance either side of the Mount Lindsay Highway (A13) between Jimboomba and Tamrookum;
  • a 20km distance either side of the Warrego Highway (A2) travelling between Ipswich and Helidon;
  • a 15km distance either side of Cunningham Highway (National Highway 15) travelling between Ipswich and Aratula;
  • a 2km distance either side of Carneys Creek Rd travelling between the intersection with the Boonah Rathdowney Road and the intersection with Chalk Road;
  • a 1km distance either side of Burnett Creek Rd (Maroon) travelling between the Boonah Rathdowney Road and the intersection with Newman Road;
  •  a 5km radius of Mt Mee and Norwell.

Darling Downs

  • a roughly square shaped region, with the eastern border being a line 5km east of the New England Highway from Saint Aubyn in the north, to Greenmount in the south, across in a straight line west to Brookstead and a straight line north to Maclagan, and back across to Saint Aubyn.

Other criteria

  • Current Dairy Licence;
  • Compliance with legislation in relation to milk production, including environmental/effluent management and animal welfare;
  • Historic compliance with the quality standards and quality assurance program of a member of the DFMC’s processing partner Bega Group* or proof of compliance with another processor’s quality standards and program;
  • Commitment to work health and safety for the staff and contractors of DFMC’s processing partner Bega Group;
  • Safe and efficient tanker access and logistically efficient collection for DFMC’s processing partner Bega Group;
  • Ability to supply DFMC with an annual volume greater than 750,000 litres;
  • Ability to supply quality milk (TPC <10,000 cfu/mL and SCC <200,000 cells/ml);
  • Sufficient production capacity for a minimum milk collection of 1,800 litres per pickup on a “skip a day” basis (milk no more than 48hrs old);
  • Meets assessment and verification checks;
  • At the time the farmer offers to enter into this agreement, DFMC has not already entered into sufficient milk supply agreements to meet its demand for milk;
  • If the supply of milk exceeds DFMC’s processing partner Bega Group’s demand, priority will be given to existing suppliers to DFMC and those suppliers who want to supply DFMC on an exclusive basis.

DFMC will enter into this agreement if the farmer is a member of the co-operative (or agrees to become a member immediately after entering into this agreement) and for the:

Mid-North Coast

Dairy farms located within:

  • a 15km radius of Wingham town centre;
  • a 30km distance either side of the Pacific Highway (A1) travelling between Buladealah and Johns River; or
  • a 10km distance either side of The Bucketts Way travelling between Stroud and Gloucester.

Hunter Valley

Dairy farms located within:

  • a 50km radius of Hexham town centre;
  • a 30km distance either side of the New England Highway (A15) travelling between Branxton and Scone;
  • a 15km radius of Denman town centre; or
  • a 50km radius of Hexham town centre to a 40km radius of Maitland town centre.

Further Criteria

  • Current Dairy Licence;
  • Compliance with legislation in relation to milk production, including environmental/effluent management and animal welfare;
  • Historic compliance with the quality standards and quality assurance program of a member of the DFMC’s processing partner Bega Group* or proof of compliance with another processor’s quality standards and program;
  • Commitment to work health and safety for the staff and contractors of DFMC’s processing partner Bega Group;

DFMC will enter into this agreement if the farmer is a member of the co-operative (or agrees to become a member immediately after entering into this agreement) and for the:

South Coast

Dairy farms located in New South Wales within:

  • a region within the following borders: a straight line (West to East) from the coast to our Penrith site at 2257 Castlereagh Rd Penrith 2750; a line from our Penrith Site down to Bowral, a line from Bowral to Nowra and then a straight line from Nowra directly East to the coast; or
  • a 30km radius of Bowral town centre; or
  • a 20km radius of Nowra town centre.

Central West

Dairy farms located in New South Wales within:

  • a quadrilateral shaped region with the following four points as corners; Bathurst, Orange, a location 40km west of Forbes and a location 40km south of Cowra.

Milk Volume required:

33ML in total for New South Wales

Further Criteria

  • Current Dairy Licence;
  • Compliance with legislation in relation to milk production, including environmental/effluent management and animal welfare;
  • Historic compliance with the quality standards and quality assurance program of a member of the DFMC’s processing partner Bega Group* or proof of compliance with another processor’s quality standards and program;
  • Commitment to work health and safety for the staff and contractors of DFMC’s processing partner Bega Group;
  • Safe and efficient tanker access and logistically efficient collection for DFMC’s processing partner Bega Group;
  • Ability to supply DFMC with an annual volume greater than 750,000 litres;
  • Ability to supply quality milk (TPC <10,000 cfu/mL and SCC <200,000 cells/ml);

DFMC will enter into this agreement if the farmer is a member of the co-operative (or agrees to become a member immediately after entering into this agreement) and for the:

Victoria, Riverina New South Wales, Southeast South Australia – specifically the following local areas:
Local Government Areas; Victoria Greater Shepparton, Moira, Campaspe, Gannawarra (east of Kerang), Wangaratta, Indigo, Ballarat, Towong, Alpine,
Wodonga. Southern NSW specifically; Murray, Berrigan, Corowa

Local Government Areas of Gippsland specifically: Wellington, Latrobe, Baw Baw,
South Gippsland, Bass Coast (east of San Remo), Cardinia, Yarra Ranges and a
30km radius of Orbost in East Gippsland.

Western Districts specifically: Colac Otway (25km radius of Colac township),
Corangamite, Moyne, Warrnambool, Glenelg, Southern Grampians. South Australia
specifically: Grant and Wattle Range (south of Lucindale).

Further Criteria

  • Current Dairy Licence;
  • Compliance with legislation in relation to milk production, including environmental/effluent management and animal welfare;
  • Historic compliance with the quality standards and quality assurance program of a member of the DFMC’s processing partner Bega Group* or proof of compliance with another processor’s quality standards and program;
  • Commitment to work health and safety for the staff and contractors of DFMC’s processing partner Bega Group;
  • Safe and efficient tanker access and logistically efficient collection for DFMC’s processing partner Bega Group;
  • Ability to supply DFMC with an annual volume greater than 750,000 litres;
  • Ability to supply quality milk (TPC <10,000 cfu/mL and SCC <200,000 cells/ml);
  • Sufficient production capacity for a minimum milk collection of 1,800 litres per pickup on a “skip a day” basis (milk no more than 48hrs old);

DFMC will enter into this agreement if the farmer is a member of the co-operative (or agrees to become a member immediately after entering into this agreement) and:

  • the farm is within the regions defined by the following:
    • Local Government Areas; Victoria Greater Shepparton, Moira, Campaspe, Gannawarra (east of Kerang), Wangaratta, Indigo, Ballarat. Southern NSW specifically; Murray, Berrigan, Corowa

Information

Milk Volume Required: 50 million litres

DFMC will enter into this agreement if the farmer is a member of the co-operative (or agrees to become a member immediately after entering into this agreement) and:

  • Dairy farms are located within a collection area within the following borders and the Adelaide coastline: a straight line (West to East) from the coast to a location 30km north of our Salisbury site (at 167 Cross Keys Rd, Salisbury South); a line from the point which is 30km north of our Salisbury site to Swan Reach, a line from Swan Reach down to Coonalpyn, a line from Coonalpyn across to Meningie, then a line from Meningie to Cape Jervis;

Other Criteria

  • Current Dairy Licence;
  • Compliance with legislation in relation to milk production, including environmental/effluent management and animal welfare;
  • Historic compliance with the quality standards and quality assurance program of a member of the DFMC’s processing partner Bega Group* or proof of compliance with another processor’s quality standards and program;
  • Commitment to work health and safety for the staff and contractors of DFMC’s processing partner Bega Group;
  • Safe and efficient tanker access and logistically efficient collection for DFMC’s processing partner Bega Group;
  • Ability to supply DFMC with an annual volume greater than 750,000 litres;
